Frequently Asked Questions

Answers To Commonly Questions

Do I need any prior experience to join?

No — no prior experience is needed at all.

Most of our students start as complete beginners. Classes are designed to introduce skills step by step, with clear guidance and plenty of encouragement along the way.

We focus on:

learning at a comfortable pace

building confidence gradually

developing good habits and fundamentals

supporting each student as an individual

New students are never expected to “keep up” or already know techniques. Everyone begins by learning the basics, and progress comes through regular practice and effort.

Whether your child is brand new to martial arts or has trained elsewhere before, they’ll be welcomed and supported from their very first class.

If you have any questions or would like reassurance before booking, we’re always happy to help

What should I wear to Karate classes?

For the first class, comfortable sports clothing is perfect.

We recommend:

a T-shirt

jogging bottoms or sports leggings

bare feet (training is done without shoes)

There’s no need to buy anything special before starting — the focus in the first sessions is on getting comfortable, learning the basics, and enjoying the experience.

Once a student joins our KickStart Programme, we will provide a full karate uniform (dobok) and appropriate sparring gear as part of the programme, so there’s no guesswork or extra shopping required.

If you have any questions about clothing or equipment before your first class, just let us know — we’re always happy to help.

How often should I attend classes to

progress?

Most students make steady progress by attending two classes per week.

Regular attendance helps students:

build confidence and familiarity

develop coordination and fitness gradually

retain techniques more easily

form positive training habits

That said, progress is not about rushing or overloading. Training once per week can still be beneficial, especially when students are settling in or balancing other commitments, while attending more frequently can help those who enjoy extra practice and structure.

The most important factor is consistency, not intensity.
Attending regularly at a pace that fits your family’s schedule leads to the best long-term results.

If you’re unsure what level of attendance is right for you or your child, we’re always happy to offer guidance.
