Our Adults Only Karate Programme gives you the space, structure and support to develop real martial skill while improving your physical and mental wellbeing. Whether you’re returning to training, starting for the first time, or looking for something more purposeful than the gym, our classes offer challenge, clarity and progress.

At McKinstry Family Karate, adults train in authentic Tang Soo Do — a traditional Korean martial art focused on discipline, precision and real functional movement. Every session blends technical practice with strength, mobility, partner drills and practical self-defence, helping you build confidence that genuinely transfers into everyday life.

Training is welcoming, structured and adaptable. You’ll learn at your own pace while being part of a supportive community that lifts each other higher. No egos, no drama — just proper martial arts, taught with integrity.

Adults Only Martial Arts – FAQ Section

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No — you get fit by training. Our Adults Class is beginner-friendly, paced safely, and adapted to each person’s ability. You train at your own level while steadily improving strength, mobility and cardio.

Am I too old to begin martial arts?

Absolutely not. Many adults start in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. Tang Soo Do is adaptable, low-impact when needed, and excellent for flexibility, confidence and overall wellbeing.

What will I learn in the Adults Only class?

You’ll learn authentic Tang Soo Do, practical self-defence, striking fundamentals, movement skills, partner work, and controlled drills — all designed to improve fitness, focus and personal confidence.

Is the training safe?

Yes. Training is structured, progressive and always supervised. Adults work with partners of suitable ability, and all contact work is optional and controlled. Safety is built into every class.

I haven’t exercised in years — will I struggle?

Not at all. Many adults begin exactly the same way. You’ll build up gradually. The atmosphere is encouraging, supportive and completely ego-free.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable gym clothing and a drink. You’ll receive a uniform when you join the programme.

Is the class good for stress relief?

Yes — massively. Our adults often comment on improved mood, better sleep, reduced stress and a stronger sense of personal control. Training becomes a weekly reset.

Will I learn real self-defence?

Yes. Adults classes incorporate practical, street-relevant skills, and you can also progress into our dedicated RAID self-defence programme for deeper training.

Can adults grade and progress toward black belt?

Absolutely. Your journey follows the same structured syllabus as the rest of the school, giving clear goals, measurable progress and a genuine development pathway.

Is this a good class for confidence or rebuilding myself physically and mentally?

Without question. Many adults join to regain confidence, rebuild strength, or re-establish discipline and routine. Martial arts provides both structure and community — it’s transformative.
